You can use the create operation to register a domain name, either to an existing account or creating a new account for the domain name.  We recommend that you read about field definitions and registrant types which will explain the acceptable values for the template below.

When you use the create operation, be aware of the following:

How to create a domain name on an existing account:

  1. Create a new email message to applications@nic.uk
  2. Use the subject TAG Request (replace TAG with your tag name in capital letters).
  3. Use the following template in your email message:

    Notes:
    • It is mandatory to include values for the 'operation:', 'key:' and 'account-id:' fields.  All other fields are optional and will be ignored by the Automaton if left blank.  For more information on template fields, see our field definitions.
    • To register multiple domain names on different accounts, you can repeat create templates separated by a blank line up to 100 times.
    • To register multiple domain names on a single account, you can repeat the 'key:' field up to 100 times.

  4. PGP sign and send the email.


How to create a domain name on a new account:

  1. Create a new email message to applications@nic.uk.

    Notes:

    • The 'postcode:' field is required if the country code is GB, JE, GG or IM.
    • The 'a2-email:' field is required if 'a2-name:' is provided.
    • The 'a3-email:' field is required if 'a3-name:' is provided.
    • The 'co-no:' field is required if modifying a net.uk, ltd.uk or a plc.uk domain name.  This field is also required for certain values of the 'type' field.
    • All other fields are optional and will be ignored by the Automaton if left blank.
    • To register multiple domain names on different accounts, you can repeat create templates separated by a blank line up to 100 times.
    • To register multiple domain names on a single account, you can repeat the 'key:' field up to 100 times.

  4. PGP sign and send the email.


You will receive confirmation from the Automaton if the operation is successful. In addition, a notification email will be sent to the registrant of the domain name.
